Instructions for Creating a Rule to Handle
Email Messages Marked as SPAM


Messages marked with TAMUC SPAM Advisory in the subject are questionable as SPAM. Outlook Express allows you to create rules to automatically filter messages to specific folders. To create a rule to filter these messages to a specific folder, begin with Outlook Express open with the questionable message selected in the Inbox.



1.Create new spam folder.

On the File menu, select Folder, then Choose New


2. Finish creating new spam folder

Click on Local Folders, and type Filter as Spam in the Folder name Field

3. Create new message rule

On the Tools menu, select Message Rules, then choose Mail...

4. Configure new message rule

When the New Mail Rule window appears, select the condition: Where the Subject line contains specific words. Then choose the Action: Move it to a specified folder . It should now look like the screen shot below. Next click on the link contains specific words. It is highlighted on the screen shot to the left.

5. Configure the rule to look for specific text

Enter the phrase TAMUC Spam Advisory in the top field and click the Add button.

Click the OK button at the bottom of the Search Text Window.


6. Configure the rule

Now the window should look like the screens shot below. Now choose the specified folder link. It is highlighted on the screens to the left.

7. Configure the rule to move spam to a specified folder

Now click on the folder Filter as Spam, then click the OK button.


8. Name the rule

At the bottom where it says Name of rule:, type TAMUC Spam. Then click the OK button.

9. Finish configuration

Now press the OK button
