Texas A&M University-Commerce provides electronic mail capabilities to its faculty, staff, students, and organizations. The promotes opportunities to enhance research, scholarship, and instruction both within the university and with the wider community. As with all external communications, Texas A&M-Commerce's email communications should promote a positive image of the university to other universities, accrediting agencies, funding agencies, the media, prospective students, their families, and the public in general.
A email account is a privilege and not a right, and must not be in violation of university, Texas A&M system, local, state, or federal rules, regulations, policies, or laws. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. The user or organization is responsible for the security of the email account and may be held liable by the University as a result of any unauthorized access to the system by his/her/its negligence in protecting the security of the account. In the event that an individual or organization has any reason to believe the security of the account has been violated, Computing, Telecommunications & Information Services should be immediately notified. The user or organization must limit access to designated individuals. In the case of individual accounts, the only the individual who applies for the account shall have access. In the case of an organization, only designated representatives of the organization shall have access.
2. Users and organizations do not own accounts on University computers, but are granted the privilege of exclusive use. See Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (title 18 U.S.C. sections 2510 et. seq.)
3. Any attempt to circumvent data protection schemes or uncover security loopholes is a violation of state and federal law.
4. Knowingly or carelessly performing an act that will interfere with the normal operation of computers, terminals, peripherals or networks is prohibited.
5. Users must respect copyright and intellectual-property rights. Users and organizations must adhere to the Texas A&M University-Commerce Administrative Rule 25.99.09.R1 section 3, and the terms and conditions of any and all software licensing agreements and/or copyright laws as specified by the vendor or licensor.
6. Users must abide by the University rules regarding use of electronic mail facilities as detailed in the Texas A&M University-Commerce Administrative Rule 25.99.09.R1 sections 4, 5 and 6.
7. Upon termination of employee or removal of organization status, this account will be removed.
