CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET FROM HOME

TACACS is the authentication system TAMU-Commerce uses to insure that only our students, faculty and staff are using the dial-up modems.  Anyone wishing to connect to the Internet or TAMU-Commerce services (E-mail, World Wide Web, On-Line Library Network, WebTRAX, etc.) will need a TACACS account.   TACACS is not an e-mail account.

TAMU-Commerce operates four Ascend MAX 4000 with 168 V.90/K56 modems to handle all dial-in traffic.  Connect speeds up to 57,600 bps are possible, but the rate may be limited by the proximity to your Central Office phone switch and line quality/noise.
