Alpha Gamma Alpha              Application Form

Alpha Gamma Alpha (AGA) is a local math club with no academic requirements for membership.  AGA  is a good way to meet classmates and teachers, socialize with friends, and listen to and participate in discussions of how mathematics is used in the world around us.  Alpha Gamma Alpha meets once a month, in conjunction with the other math clubs, during the fall and spring terms. 

Dues:  $6.00 per year

Pi Mu Epsilon (Honorary Society)         Application Form

Pi Mu Epsilon is an honorary fraternity of mathematicians, where in all members must meet the following academic requirements:

Option I:  

1. Two years of college mathematics, including calculus.

2. 3.0 GPA on mathematical work.

3. Top one-third of class in general college work.

Option II: 

1. Sophomore classification with three or more college mathematics courses, including one semester of calculus.

2. 4.0 GPA on mathematical work.

3. Top one-fourth of class in general college work.

Option III:

1.  Graduate student whose mathematical work is at least equivalent to that required for undergraduates.

2.  3.0 GPA on mathematical work taken during the last school year prior to election to membership.

Pi Mu Epsilon meets once a month, in conjunction with the other math clubs, during the fall and spring terms.  Membership in Pi Mu Epsilon automatically allows you membership in Alpha Gamma Alpha, the local math club which has no academic qualifications but shares the same goal of investigating mathematical concepts as Pi Mu Epsilon.

Dues:  $6.00 per year ($3.00 per semester) and there is also a one-time initiation fee of $20.00 to join the national organization of Pi Mu Epsilon.

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA)         Application Form

Everyone is welcome to join the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and there are no academic requirements for the membership.  The MAA is a national organization which is concerned with discussing and sharing mathematical ideas. The Mathematical Association of America meets monthly with the other math clubs on campus in order to exchange mathematical ideas. 

Due:  $26.00 per year ($20.00 per year for MAA and $6.00 per year for AGA)

Membership dues include a subscription to FOCUS newsletter and Math Horizons magazine.  Members are also able to subscribe to one or more of three other magazines:  The College Mathematics Journal, Mathematics Magazine, and The American Mathematical Monthly.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)         Application Form

Everyone is welcome to join the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  The NCTM is a national organization which is concerned with discussing and sharing mathematical ideas in education. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics will meet monthly with the other math clubs on campus in order to exchange mathematical ideas.

Due:  $10.00 per year

Membership dues include a subscription to at least one of the magazines for mathematics teachers, such as “Teaching Children Mathematics” or “Mathematics Teacher”.  Members are also able to subscribe to mathematics education-based magazines.
