Career Choices
"Cheshire Puss," (she began), "would you please tell me which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends on where you want to
get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where . . . ,"
said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way
you go," said the Cat.
--Lewis Carroll,
Alice in Wonderland
We suggest that you try to become a bit more decisive than Alice.
But HOW -- you may well ask -- do I DO that!?!?!
The answer is (relatively) simple:
Learn more about yourself (your
skills, interests, values, and personality)
Discover how your academic major
relates to possible careers
Explore several career
fields (including specific positions within those fields) to determine which
is the best "fit" for your unique qualifications and interests
To learn more about yourself, Career Services
invites you to visit our office and ask about our Career Decisions Kit, the CEI (Career Exploration Inventory),
and the Discover program. We also
suggest you visit the Counseling
Center on campus for more individual assistance.
To discover how academic majors
relate to possible careers, AND to explore those fields in more detail, we
recommend the two on-line "MAJOR" guides listed below. The
career library in our office also contains more detailed information on a
variety of career options, and we invite you to use it!!
And, finally, we offer this rudimentary four-year plan, to guide your steps toward success as a student at Texas A&M University–Commerce. FRESHMAN YEAR
