Responsibilities: Responsibilities of this 9-month,
tenure-track position include teaching undergraduate and graduate
courses in a classroom setting and by means of distance education
technology available through The Texas A&M University System.
The successful candidate will also advise and mentor students and
will support and be involved with student organizations. Research
responsibilities will be determined by the successful candidate's
background training and experience as well as industry needs. To fully
support the growth and development of this program, the successful
candidate must develop a strong area of scholarship, engage in scholarly
publishing, and generate external funding.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Ph. D. in horticultural
sciences is required. Teaching knowledge of production horticulture
and soils are preferred. Knowledge in additional areas of turf, ornamentals,
and/or landscape design is also desirable. Demonstrated interpersonal
communication, teaching, and research skills are essential.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
STARTING DATE: August 18, 2003

LOCATION & ENVIRONMENT: Texas A&M University-Commerce is a regional
state assisted member of the Texas A&M University System with an
academic enrollment of approximately 8,500 students. Commerce is located
65 miles northeast of Dallas, Texas in a predominantly rural setting.
The Department of Agricultural Sciences is housed on the main campus
with additional classrooms and laboratory facilities located in production
centers on the 1,800 acre teaching and research farm with two new greenhouses.
The Department has 300 undergraduate and 30 graduate majors and offers
one graduate and five undergraduate degrees.
