Haltering
The halter is an instrument used to control a horse; however, a student must remember to use precaution when haltering an unfamilar horse. Always use slow hand movements and approach the horse in an unthretening manner. Body language of the handler plays a major role in the demeanor of the horse. When haltering the horse, approach at an angle making the horse aware of your presence. Place the lead rope around the horse's neck to prevent the horse from escaping. Then place the halter around the muzzle and over the poll where it connects on the left side of the horse's neck.
