Saddle and Cinch

When saddling the horse it is important for the horse to be tied securely and away from debris. With the cinches and right stirrup across the seat, grip the pommel and cantle and place it gently on the saddle pad just behind the shoulder blades of the horse. After lowering the cinches and right stirrup, cinch the saddle up, but not too tight. If the saddle has front and back cinches, tighten the front cinch first. When cinching the saddle it is important for the student to ease the horse through the process and not try to cinch as hard as possible. Secure the saddle to the horse and gently tighten the cinch until two fingers can be placed in between the girth strap and the horse"s girth.
