Lion's Roar
October 2008
Greetings fellow alumni and former students!
This is an extraordinarily busy time in the life of the university. Over the past few months we have experienced the retirement of Dr. McFarland after ten years of dedicated service as university President. His tenure was marked with incredible growth and retention, academic improvement and facility changes.
A new era was ushered in with the hiring of Dr. Dan Jones who becomes the 11th President of the university. We are excited about his future and the effective changes that will continue to occur.
We are especially pleased with the recent completion of the Alumni Center. This long-awaited project is the culmination of years of collaborative effort between the university and the Alumni Association. I extend my gratitude on behalf of the staff for your support and encouragement in this regard.
In this issue you will find a long list of upcoming events to include the Cotton Bowl game, Homecoming, Veteran’s Vigil and First Last Dinner Dance. These events provide great opportunities for you to support the university and re-connect with old friends.
I look forward to seeing each of you!

The SRSC staff will be working diligently over the next two months to add the high tech and new media aspects that truly make our new Student Center unique. Short Term Medical Insurance Offered
Most Student Healthcare Coverage Ends at Graduation! For many students, Graduation Day carries an additional meaning. After that point, most graduates can no longer be covered under a parent's medical plan. That's why the Texas A&M-Commerce Alumni Association endorsed the Alumni Short Term Medical Insurance Plan for recent graduates.
This special health coverage option gives your important peace-of-mind medical protection with:
- Up to $2,000,000 in medical benefits for hospital care, outpatient treatments, doctor bills, surgery and anesthesia, x-rays, lab tests and more.
- The right to choose a doctor or hospital - you are not restricted to a "preferred provider" network.
- Money-saving rates that are generally less expensive than continuing coverage under COBRA.
