11.99.99.R0.02 Field Experience, Interns and Residents
Effective September 1, 1996
l. Department heads of the respective departments will be responsible for providing
the necessary number of faculty (university liaisons) needed to facilitate the
field experiences in the teacher education program while serving on the instructional
leadership teams (ILT) of interns and residents.
2. University liaison will have teacher certification or the equivalent and at least three years preK-12 teaching experience, preferably at the level or in the area of the intern and/or resident.
3. The university liaison’s teaching schedule must permit adequate time for public school involvement with interns and/or residents and mentor teachers.
4. Responsibilities of university liaison:
a. facilitate reflection and assessment activities for interns and/residents.
b. assist public school mentor teachers in planning and coordinating assignments and activities with interns and/residents.
c. foster communication between the university and public school.
d. assist the ILT in ways which enhance the learning of the preK-12 student.
5. Responsibilities of public school mentor teachers:
a. provide public school classroom instruction which enhances student learning and student achievement.
b. provide and environment where an intern and/resident can observe, understand and assimilate the experiences involved in the learning process.
c. share his/her experience and expertise with the intern and/or resident
as a means of professional development.
6. Centers for professional development and technology for the placement of interns and/residents are selected from school districts who are members of the Northeast Texas Center for Professional Development and Technology (NET CPDT) and provide representation to the NET CPDT advisory council.
7. Arrangements for using the public schools for field experiences will be a coordinated effort of the head of the Department of Elementary Education and/or the head of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education and the director of the NET CPDT, all of whom share the responsibility to initiate and maintain such arrangements with the public schools.
