Academic Advising

Basic Skills Policy

The Basic Skills policy states that students must complete
English 101 (Freshman composition) and College Math
(Algebra) within their first two semesters, or as many
semesters allowed depending upon the need for
developmental courses. Students are expected to
complete each developmental course within one semester.
Failure to pass a developmental course will result in close
monitoring and possible academic suspension.

Math

Students must begin in the Math course in which the
diagnostic test placed them. One Math course per
semester must be taken until Math 141/175/179 is
passed. If a student is placed in a developmental math
class, that class must be passed with a grade of "C" or
above before advancing to the next level.
Students may retake the math diagnostic for higher
placement no sooner than 30 days from the previous test.

English

Students must begin English in the course in which the
diagnostic test placed them and take one English course
per semester until English 101 is passed. A student must
pass the developmental English class with a "C".
