Virtual Tour

What is a Virtual Tour?

A virtual tour is a series of immersive, panoramic photographs, linked together to form an experience for the viewer similar to actually being there. This tour will lead you through every floor of the library, with "hotspots" in the photographs bringing up explanatory notes, library catalogs & indexes. You can either choose to follow the tour, or wander about! The links are at the bottom of this page.

What is Java?

Java Applets are very small programs which can help your Web Browser (i.e. Netscape or Internet Explorer) view immersive, panoramic images. There's no need to download a separate program or plug-in, since the applet downloads with the panorama, and then automatically downloads, installs and starts running by itself.

What is QuickTime?

QuickTime is a program which will help your Web Browser view higher quality panoramic images. To use the QuickTime version of the tour, you'll have to download QuickTime, install it, and then come back to this page. Taking the time to install it will give you a more pleasant tour, and you can use it later for about 80-95% of the digital movies on the internet.

Java Applets give you the convenience of no separate download / installation, while QuickTime offers greater stability and the benefits of a host of other valuable features for virtual tours and regular, digital video.

Can I use Netscape or IE 2.0?

No, we really recommend using the very latest version of Netscape or Internet Explorer, which is at the time of this writing at Netscape 4.5 and IE 4.01. Any version of Netscape or Internet Explorer above 3.0 should work, but older versions may give you unexpected results.
